BEGINS WITH A VISION
In the previous Blog (Training Lesson 1) we learnt how Alexander the Great viewed his forthcoming campaign against the enemy. Well before the campaign started he set his VISION straight and specific. There was no ambiguity in his thoughts. He never wavered a minute away from his PRESET OBJECTIVE. His POA was crystal clear.
VISION & MISSION
A serious business leader first sets his Vision & Mission. What is the difference between the two?
Vision is what you want to achieve
Mission is how you will achieve your Vision
Vision is the directional force. It’s a compass. It clearly paves the path where you would want to tread. If this is set in the beginning itself, no matter what inducement, distraction comes in your way you shall not waver. Vision shows what you are. It’s a sense of purpose.
Mission is the process of achieving your set Vision. What strategic moves you will employ in the course of your action. It’s an action thriller.
If you look at any professionally successful organization round the world, you can see their Vision & Mission. Simply they don’t produce some product and sell them. They have their preset Vision and the way they will operate to achieve their Vision. All strategies are woven around that thread only. People who have to execute plans are trained in that fashion. Training is Transferring of Power of Performance. That gets bolstered with clear Vision & Mission.
Creating Vision & Mission Statements
Sit and think what you want to achieve. Set your life’s goal. Goal should not be mistaken with short term or intermediate or long term ones. That process is different. We will see that later. Now for setting your Vision, this is your Life’s Goal. Write it on a piece of paper. That’s your Vision Statement. Then write down the means of achieving the same. That’s your Mission Statement. Set your daily work schedule based on your Mission Statement.
