MLM BUSINESS vs. CONVENTIONAL BUSINESS Part 6

6. A CAMEL LESSON

Learning life’s lessons need not be confined to humans alone. Even animals teach lots of useful things to us.
One day a camel kid asked his mother some doubts. Shall we learn from them?
Kid camel: Mummy, why are our legs so long?
Mummy camel: Child we have to walk, run long distances in the rough desert. That’s why our legs are very long
Kid: Mummy, why are our eyebrows so wide?
Mummy: Child it’s to protect our precious eyes from the dusty winds of the desert
Kid: Mummy, why is our skin rough and thick?
Mummy: Child it’s to withstand the tormenting heat of the Sun in the desert. Ok my dear child why are you asking these things?
Kid: Mummy with such long legs, protective eyebrows and a really good rough and thick skin, why are we still in the zoo and not in the desert?
Mummy: ….. ?????.......

Friends, what do we learn from this conversation of camels?

a) Even after learning so much about MLM business we still harbor doubts
b) We feel reluctant to take the right action
c) We are feeling more comfortable in the confines of ‘calf path’ (wait for a blog on this)

By that we are just losing one of life’s greatest opportunities that has the potential to give us and our generations perennial income.

Friends,
Even camels have started thinking differently
Shall we start at least now?

MLM BUSINESS vs. CONVENTIONAL BUSINESS Part 5

5. POWER OF LEVERAGING - PAUL GETTY FORMULA

Jean Paul Getty was one of the richest billionaires in the United States. The Guinness Book of Records in 1996 registered him as the 67th richest American who had ever lived. Starting with just $500,000, inherited from his father’s fortunes, he built his business empire heading 200 companies. His father wrote him off, saying Jean Paul will destroy the family’s business. But when he died in 1976 he was worth more than $2 billion. Something must have certainly happened for this giant money making machine to have amassed so much of wealth. It could be opportunities he got; his education; professional skills; not accepting failure in any activity; maybe all of the above. But a single most thing that had contributed to his stunning success was his unflinching belief in his working attitude. When someone asked him what had contributed to his success, he said it was his formula.

Paul Getty Formula

1% effort of 100 people produces
more than the 100% effort of 1 person

If we analyze this formula we can come to some conclusions like,
  1. If 1 person has exhausted his 100% effort there is nothing left out in him to contribute further
  2. If 100 people have contributed just 1% of their effort, then the remaining 99% of all the 100 people are still remaining to be contributed
  3. The result out of this contribution will be so massive that it can produce phenomenal success
This is known as the Principle of Leveraging

Leveraging

If you want to pick up a small object you can simply do so with your hands. But the same thing cannot be done if the object is big enough and to move that you require either enormous power or the assistance of many people. But with the Principle of Leveraging it is done the easiest way. Place the object at one end; on a fulcrum at the centre put a plank at the bottom of the object; press the other end of the plank; you will see the object moving. The Principle says that you can move a bigger object with the least amount of power employed at the other end.

Leveraging & MLM Business

Conventional business model believes in the use of Singular Power to move the product in the market. However in MLM you employ large team strength to derive the results. Even if the customer is at a far off distance from where you dwell, if you have a team member there he will convince the customer (leveraging) and you can derive income out of that. If you happen to have a large number of people in your team in different places, the volume of such leverage is very high. The larger the usage of products by larger number of people will determine your derived income level wherever the customer may be. This is not possible in Conventional Business model.
What to do for Leveraging Success

First of all you must leverage your mind. That is the biggest stumbling block to progress. Train your mind reading books, attending seminars, understanding the real MLM business model (of course reading & sharing my blogs!). Help as many people as possible. Even if you put in efforts to train say 10 people, the sum total of their work will exponentially exceed your Singular Effort. Train the 10 to train another 10. If each of them put just 1% of their talent to work, the results will be amazing (Paul Getty will be happy!). You can help to improve their competency by just another 1%, you can’t believe what results it can produce. When everyone enjoys success he creates and recreates another set of achievers.

Friends,
This WAVE after WAVE success
will have Ripple Effect
Ripple Effect will bring to your shore huge income
That is MLM Business

MLM BUSINESS vs. CONVENTIONAL BUSINESS Part 4

4. INCOME PATTERN

Any economic activity should ultimately give income. Be it business, employment, investment the end result should be how much it pays you at the end. To earn income, two basic investments required are TALENT & TIME.

Income has 2 dimensions

1) Direct Income                     2) Derived income

Direct income

This is earned by one’s own talent and time. How many hours you put in and the level of your competency will determine the quantum of your income. Hence if you want to earn more, you need to burn more time and should improve your competency. This certainly has limitations. Time in a day and the talent quotient are limited. The next limitation is geographical boundaries. You cannot sit in Delhi and earn from Dubai. This is true in all direct income activities.

Derived Income

As the name implies it is ‘taken from someone and from somewhere’. This doesn’t mean ‘picking up’. To ‘take from someone and from somewhere’ it requires enormous amount of talent. First of all let us understand what this Derived Income is. Imagine 3 companies are marketing their own Paracetamol brands. They are buying generic raw material (acetaminophen) from the same company. Company A is the brand leader with say 50% market share; Company B has a market share of say 20%, Company C has 10% and the rest by other smaller ones. Each company’s income is different which is due to their market share. This is Direct Income for the respective companies. As time passes, these market shares may change and that will have reflection on their income as well, either may go up or down. However the Company which supplies raw material to all of them is not at all affected by change in the market share of any of these companies because it derives income from each of them. Each company has different talents and the geographical area of their operations may differ. When Company A goes down, Company B may go up; the normal growth rate of the market itself may go up. Therefore Derived Income is much more pronounced than Direct Income.

MLM is Derived Income

MLM business is not a single man’s activity. The income is the sum total of the efforts of everyone in the team. The team may be spread beyond the area of your dwelling, but still you will derive income from them. They may be drawn from different social backgrounds, like a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, an auditor, a business professional, an employee, a rich person, one from a poor family, not so educated, a homemaker or any one not mentioned above, still you will derive income from them. Your talents may be different from theirs but still you will derive income from their talents.

One day a person was travelling in a train. The co passengers introduced themselves to others. Each one was telling about his job and the profession. When this person’s term came he said, ‘I’m in a job where I earn while every one of you is sleeping. All were surprised. They asked him what job he was doing. He said, ‘I’m a networker. I have my team spread all over the world. Now its night time for us, but its day time in US. People in my team in US are working now and when I start sleeping I will still earn.'

Before he disembarked from the train he recruited one of the co passengers.  He is one of the greatest networkers I have ever met.
'Babu in HongKong

He is Mr. Seshasayee Babu from India. From now on Mr. Babu will derive income from that person, from his Talent & Time.

To get Perennial income

Derived Income will be Perennial Income. That’s possible in MLM business. It’s beyond geographical limitations. You can recruit anyone from any part of the world and still get income from that person’s TALENT & TIME.

Friends,
Master the technique of Deriving Income from others' TALENT & TIME
That is the Leveraging Technique. See that in the next blog

MLM BUSINESS vs. CONVENTIONAL BUSINESS Part 3

3. SALES vs. MARKETING

In the same IWSS meeting, Mr. Anbu Krishnamurthy a dynamic young networker in Chennai asked for the difference between Sales & Marketing.

Thanks to Anbu, I’m sharing what I said in the meeting and the relevance it has for the MLM Business.

Sales

For selling you need a product. Imagine I’m a seller of say pens. The purpose of sales is to make profit. Isn’t it? So if I need more profit I have to sell more units of pens. The day I sell more I make more profit.

Selling is purely based on my own talent & time. If I come across a difficult customer and I’m unable to tackle him I lose the prospect and profit. On any day my sale drops, naturally my profit drops. It can happen due to any reason. For e.g. I’m sick on a particular day; or there is a domestic compulsion; marriage of a kith & kin or a friend; or there is heavy rain inundating the town on a particular day or there can be multiple reasons, sales drop together with profits. Hence profit is dependent on the movement of the product. That means SALES IS MOVING of PRODUCTS. The more you move the more you make and vice versa.

Marketing

Unlike Sales, Marketing is a 3 letter magic word, PIC. That is

P – Product              I – Idea             C – Concept

While Sales needs a product, Marketing can have any of the above. In Sales you actually move the product from you to the consumer. In Marketing product doesn’t change hands. It’s change of MIND and not the actual product. It’s very easy to understand. When you see a product ‘ad’ in a TV show there is no change of product taking place. Your mind is the target. Once your mind moves about the product, you go to the shop and buy. It need not necessarily be about a product. Suppose for your body weight management, a programme gives you an idea, will you try or not? That programme has moved your mind to take a buying action. That’s marketing; achieving a goal by working on minds rather than selling a product directly. Therefore MARKETING IS MOVING of MINDS. So if you draw a matrix it will look this.

Relevance to MLM Business

From the matrix & the explanation above you will see that moving a product has limitations. But you can move any number of minds as you wish. As many minds you move so many is the possible sales and as many sales so much of profit. That’s why many companies choose media, press ads, road show etc as their promotional platforms. When you simply resort to selling activity your profit is limited. But if you take up Marketing activity your sale quadruples and corresponding profit gallops.

MLM is still better. In conventional marketing activity you are at a distance from the consumer. You can only promote your product. You can’t address consumers’ doubts then and there. But in MLM system not only do you present your products and marketing plan, but can also clear any possible doubts in the consumers’ mind then and there. That’s why MLM system insists on meetings. Whether you talk to one person or 100 people, substance and time is the same. But in the same time you are able move 100 minds. Out of them even 25% decide to take action that is the best result one can get. That is not possible in mere selling activity.
Therefore friends,

MLM Business is MOVING MINDS rather than MOVING PRODUCTS

Improve your competency in moving mind techniques to improve income

MLM BUSINESS vs. CONVENTIONAL BUSINESS (Part 2)

2. PRODUCT PROMOTION
     – STRUCTURED vs. FREE FOR ALL

In any business, marketing is the wheel that takes products to the consumer.
Therefore the wheel has to be strong;
should have smooth drive (satisfy customers’ needs & wants);
should withstand the pressures of the road (customers’ objections & doubts);
should not get punctured on the way (by competitors’ strategies);
even if it gets punctured should get repaired fast (respond fast to competitor onslaughts) and move on to the desired destination.
For the wheels to move in a proper direction the driver must be efficient. If he steers the wheels the right way it will take him to the right destination. If not there will only be disaster.

Product Promo – Conventional Business

For the driver to be effective, in the beginning wheels are not given to him.
First and foremost he understands the vehicle (product & its user benefits);
the target group to whom it is addressed to get results (destination);
understand the needs & wants of the consumer;
conversion strategies of WANTS into NEEDS
(a separate blog will be there in future regarding this. Keep watching & reading);
he reads, practices, undergoes mock drill;
he accompanies the senior to observe on the job performance. After all this he is given small wheels to perform himself. His performance is monitored, corrected wherever faults are observed and then he is given freewheeling. He comes and sits simply as a learner and observer in promo meetings. Later on when he masters the techniques he takes class and starts training others.
Hence the same message percolates in the market. There is uniformity in promotion. Assessments and correction is taken then and there. This is thoroughly followed in any professional organization. Some genius produces products. But the person who translates them into positive results is the guy in the market place. Even an excellent product can be perfectly murdered by inefficient promotion and the promoter. Therefore the Promo Structuring is given valuable importance in conventional business model.

Product Promo – MLM Business

In this business model promoters are independent distributors. These distributors have no hierarchical command structure. They are at distances. They are drawn from diverse social backgrounds. Their only aim is to make quick money as has been told by someone, who says,

1) You just become a member; put one or more on left and right side. You don’t have to do anything. The system will take over everything. You simply make money.
2) You recruit as many people as possible. Even if you don’t work someone under you will work and you can make money.
3) You simply keep improving your position by buying products. People under you will anyway work for themselves and you can make spillover income. Your economic life is secured.

There are many number of inducements made by people and the gullible one believes all these stories and ultimately loses not only his money, all those whom he has recruited also lose their money. And together they start blaming the very system itself.

What to do then?

From the time a person joins the team the following is recommended

a. Continuous product training is a must in every meeting
b. Proper product promotion should supersede marketing promotion
c. Customer handling training should be a part of training sessions
d. Proper understanding on income patterns of the system must be drilled
e. “Quick Buck” strategies should never be encouraged

Friends, follow the 5 above.

You will blossom as a Professional.
You will create Professionals.
All will get Perennial Income.

MLM Business vs Conventional Business (Part 1)

1. COMPETITION vs. COMPLEMENTING

During the IWSS meeting at Chennai, one of the active participants, Mrs. Hemalatha asked me to explain the difference between MLM Business and Conventional Business.

I thanked her for giving me an opportunity to share my thoughts on the subject which may be of interest to all networkers. This can be explained in many ways starting from

A. Nature of business
B. Promotion of business
C. Remuneration from business
D. Potential of business
and so on.

Let us consider them.

COMPETITION vs. COMPLEMENTING

Scene 1

Imagine there are two brothers staying in the same home with their families; dining in the same table and doing the same say, an electrical retail business. Both have different shops. The elder one has his shop at one corner of a street and the younger in the other corner of the same street. If one sells better than the other, will the other one just keep mum or will he devise some means to beat his brother’s sales and improve his own? Certainly he will do. He will never think, “after all he is my brother; we stay in the same house; let him sell better than me; I better lose and let him make more profit and so on….” Why?

Business means competition. Business competition doesn’t see any relationship. There is Investment Capital in business and he has to make profit. Otherwise he will lose capital. Once capital is lost he is out of business. How will he feed himself and his family then?

Scene 2

Now imagine both brothers are in MLM business. Like Scene 1 they have their offices in two corners of the same street. Elder brother has sponsored the younger one. Elder one is good in ‘one on one’ situations; but is not that effective when it comes to ‘one on multiples’ situation. So when more prospects come he automatically sends them to his brother, so that he can convince them and make them member under himself. He is not unduly worried. Why? Because whatever his brother does, it will spill over and come to him only as he is the sponsor. So he never feels amiss if his brother gets more prospects. Rather he is very happy that his brother is getting more prospects. The more his brother gets he gets better as he is his sponsor. In the meantime he is also putting effort to be better in ‘one on multiples’ situation by observing the way his younger brother is presenting.

No Competition

Hence this business, as a different model does not work on Competition but on Complementing. It helps people to leverage rather than looking at each other as competitors. One can leverage others' competency to earn and grow.

Friends,

Competition begets jealousy and jealousy is lousy
Conventional business is Competitive

Complementing is healthy as it helps leverage competency
MLM Business is Complementary

Seed of Success

As we get up in the morning and retire in the night, in between these two states we are into many activities. All those should culminate in Success.

Be it a student at school, a mother in the kitchen, a man or woman in work, everyone without exception, at the end of the day when he/she reviews his/her day’s time and activity log it should reflect Success. For that the first and foremost requirement is, the Mind must be positive. Positive Mind emits Positive Energy. Positive Energy can be harnessed throughout the day to get Positive Thoughts. Positive Thoughts will lead to Positive Actions. And Positive Actions will result in SUCCESS.

That’s why it’s said,

   AS THE MIND
                     SO THE THOUGHT
                                                           AS THE THOUGHT
                                                           SO THE ACTION

Therefore Mind is very important to be in positive mode. Morning is the best time to invoke it because after long hours of sleep conscious mind wakes up with no clouded thoughts. That’s the time to sow SEEDS of SUCCESS, so that you can harvest FRUITS of SUCCESS at the end of the day.

Way back in the 80’s I wrote a poem which even this day I recite in the beginning of my meetings. When everyone recites together it creates a Positive Environment. Many people write this in their notebook. For the benefit of those who have not read this, I’m sharing my poem in this blog. After all who doesn’t want success? You may also recite it. It does not have any religious overtones. Everyone can recite as everyone has mind and everyone wants success in whatever he does.

Here it is,

SEED OF SUCCESS

Oh! Lord,
This day has dawned as a lovely day for me
Pray this continue till I retire at night. Throughout this day,

Give me,
Strength, Energy, Intelligence and Health to discharge my duties
To the Best of my Ability

Give me,
Courage, A mind to help others and Share my Knowledge

I Pray,
I shall be Successful all through this day.

Friends,
I wish every one of you,
                           Success every day
                           And in
                           Every activity of the day

Be Bold to Lose

In continuation of my Blog 14 : Birbal Cat regarding role of stories in convincing people this is another one.

I never go late for my meetings. I feel that if I go late habitually it looks as if I’m disrespecting all those who have spent their valuable time to come for the meeting. Time is just not precious for me alone; it’s the same for others as well. Moreover when we are either on time or habitually late, we set precedence. Audience also set their timing accordingly. Productive time will be lost when meetings don’t start and end on time. In business we have to realize that time is money. Time is an investment capital. But one day I went a little late for a meeting. The audience was surprised and the conversation went on like this,

Audience: Sir, surprisingly today you are late. Why?
Me: The child at home was crying; however much I tried to pacify him he didn’t stop
Audi: Sir, there are so many ways to pacify a child. You could have used any of the strategies
Me: I tried all techniques, but the child wished just what he wanted me to do
Audi: Sir, tell us what the child wanted
Me: First the child wanted milk. When I gave the milk he said, “No; not this milk. I want directly from the cow…!” So I brought a cow and milked a glass and gave him
Audi: You have given what the child wanted. Why then did he cry?
Me: He drank half glass of milk and told me to put back the balance from where I milked from the cow…!!!
Audi: (Laughing) what did you do, Sir then?
Me: I told my wife, “I’m already late for the meeting. Let the child cry. After some time he will sleep off and forget the episode. I’m going”.
Now I’m here.

Story above

There are many people among us who behave like this child. Whatever you tell them about an opportunity, they may appear to be convincing, but at the end they will go back to unreasonable situations. You may have exhausted all strategies to convince them. What to do with such people?

Be Bold to Lose

Like I left the child to continue crying and went ahead with the job at hand, you also ignore them.
After all you tried your best. Never be after such people. It’s a waste of time. Population is never small in this world.

Rather than wasting your precious time on such people who deliberately don’t want to get convinced, you go ahead with those who are ready to do their best for themselves and for others.
Invest your time on them. That will be rewarding for both of you. One day even that child like people may come to you. Even if they don’t, nothing is lost.

Friends,
While you do the utmost to convince a prospect
When nothing works
Be bold enough to lose such a prospect

Invest on those who want to change themselves
Ignore those who want to put
 their own wheels back
